I am at present an engineer working on a contract basis

Q: I am at present an engineer working on a contract basis my mortgage is £360 a month do I qualify for unemployment protection insurance? If so how much would this be?

A: As a contract worker you would need to read the unemployment protection insurance policy terms and conditions which are available online as your type and length of contract would affect the cover entitlement.

If you are on a short term contract and have had your contract for less then 24 months then the payment protection insurance policy would only pay until the end term of your contract.

However, if you have had your contract with the same employer for 24 months and know of no reason why it will not be renewed then you would be classed as employed.
